BREAKING: A Construction Contract Worker Killed while working inside a tank at the OCI plant TX.

Woodside Energy Group Ltd. confirmed Friday that a worker at a newly acquired ammonia production project in Beaumont, Texas, had died while on duty.  A local judge identified the fatality as 36-year-old Cameron Powell of Vidor, local media reported.  “An incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. CDT Thursday at the Beaumont Clean Ammonia site in Texas which has tragically resulted in the death of an employee of one of OCI’s construction contractors”, the Australian company said in a statement. Construction of the ongoing project continues to be managed by the former owner, OCI Global.

A construction contract worker has died in a Thursday morning industrial accident after falling 60-70 feet at a Jefferson County plant, the man was transported to a nearby hospital due to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The incident occurred during work activity being carried out at the site. All other people at the site are safe and accounted for.

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said, “This is a very sad day, and I offer my deepest sympathy to our colleague’s family, friends and workmates.  “The safety of our workforce is always our top priority, and we are providing full support to OCI and its contracting company.  “We are taking steps to understand the circumstances around this tragic event and are working closely with relevant authorities and regulators, OCI and the contractor company. A full investigation will be initiated and a stand down of all work is currently in place.”

OCI will continue to manage the construction, commissioning, and startup of the facility through provisional acceptance (‘Project Completion’)”, OCI said in a statement Monday.  The provisional part refers to the conditional production of lower-carbon ammonia. “Production of lower carbon ammonia is conditional on supply of carbon abated hydrogen and ExxonMobil’s CCS facility becoming operational”, OCI said.
